BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: The history of this breed can be traced back to Western Han Dynasty (BC 202- AD 8), more than 2,000 years ago. Archaeologists found a huge Western Han Dynasty’s graveyyard in Jiangbei area of Chongqing on 20th April, 2000. A large number of dog pottery statues of their kind were found. Some of them served the purpose of being protector Gods to accompany the tomb of the noble family in spirit. This ancient breed was prevalent in Chongqing. It’s direct ancestor is the native breeds from the adjacent regions of Dazhu, Hechuan, Yongchuan, Lingshui and Guanan and collectively called as Chongqing Dog. They were developed for hunting in the mountain area of East Sichuan. Chongqing Dog lost their major purpose due to the urbanisation and their population declined rapidly. The restoration of the breed was undertaken successfully not until 70’s. They become a popular utility dog in Chongqing since then.
历史概述：这个犬种的历史可以追溯到距今超过2000年的西汉时期（公元前202-公元8年）。考古学家于2000年4月20日在重庆发现了一个巨大的西汉墓穴。发现了大量同类狗的陶勇。其中有些是作为保护神，在精神上守护贵族家族的坟墓。这个古老的犬种在重庆普遍存在。它的直接祖先是来自周边地区大竹、合川、永川、领水和广安的原生犬种统称为重庆狗。它们因在四川东部山区狩猎而被发觉。由于城市化进程且重庆犬失去了它狩猎的工作性，从而种群数量迅速下降。直到70年代才确保这个犬种的回归，从那时起它们成为重庆当地受欢迎的犬种。
GENERAL APPEARANCE: They are loyal, intelligent, courageous, agile species. Chongqing Dog are medium-sized dogs, square -built, great strength for his size and muscular. Their body are covered with short harsh coat. From the withers and the spinal column is sparsely furnished with coat radiating to 3 cm on each side and extending lengthwise including the croup, above the tail from the root to its tip.
整体外形：他们是忠诚的、聪明的、勇敢的、敏捷的物种。重庆犬是中型犬，呈正方形，对于体型而言它显得非常有力量感。它们的身体被短且粗硬的被毛所覆盖。被毛覆盖在从马肩隆和脊柱向身体两侧纵向伸展3厘米包括臀部，在尾巴上方，从尾根到尾尖。
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS: The length of skull and the length of the muzzle approximately 2: 1. Height to elbow about half height at withers. The female can be slightly longer than the males.

BEHAVIOUR AND TEMPERAMENT: Guardian of property and family, fearless, muscular, tough and agile. In the past, it has been used for hunting.

HEAD: Muzzle should be as broad and powerful as possible. The dark mask is confined to muzzle and must be in sharp contrast to the colour of the head.

CRANIAL REGION:

Skull: The skull is flat between ears. Square on top. Natural wrinkles on top of the skull.

Stop: Well defined.

Forehead: The forehead forms a distinct stop with the bridge of nose. Slightly loose and fine wrinkles without excess on the skull.
前额：前额与鼻梁间有明显的额断。轻微松弛有细小皱纹，颅骨上没有多余皱纹。
FACIAL REGION:
面部：
Nose: Black nose and large nostrils, under no circumstances liver colour, red or brown.
鼻：黑色鼻子且鼻孔大，绝对不允许肝色、红色或棕色。
Muzzle: Strong, square, noticeably shorter than the skull. Broad from root to tip of the nose, not snipy, with moderately obvious folds. The line of the muzzle forms a very obtuse angle upwards.
口吻：强壮，正方形，明显短于头骨。宽从口吻根部到鼻尖，口鼻不长。中度明显的褶皱，口吻部线条向上形成钝角。
Cheeks: Prominent, due to the strong development of the muscle.
面颊：突出，由于肌肉的强劲发展。
Lips: Tight with good pigmentation.
唇：紧致且有良好的色素。
Mouth: Tongue, gums, flews and roof of mouth, bluish black is preferred. Pink spotted tongue permissible. Solid pink tongue highly undesirable.

Jaws/Teeth: Jaw strong with undershot bite and set square to the jaws. Undershot bite more than 5 mm, undesirable.

Eyes: Dark brown or hazel, fairly large, oval shaped and show no haw. Slightly protruding but never exaggerated. Eye rims must be dark.

Ears: Set on sides of the skull. Medium sized, triangular, inclining forward and firmly pricked. Not cropped.

NECK: Medium length, strong, set well on the shoulder.

BODY: Moderate wrinkle on the withers.The body is somewhat longer than the height at the withers.

Topline: Slightly fall behind shoulders, rising above the level of the croup.

Loin: Strong, broad, slightly roach.

Chest: Wide, prominent and deep reaching the elbows. Depth of chest is half the height at withers. Well let down between forelegs.

Underline and belly: Without excessive tuck-up.

Croup: Moderately sloping.

TAIL: Tail set high, stay straight stiffen and carried high. Moderately long, round at base and tapering to a fine point.
尾：尾根位置高，保持坚挺与且高举。中等长度，尾根部圆逐渐变细至尾尖。

~Pastern: Short and slightly slopping.

~Forefeet: Tight and firm. Well knuckled up and strongly padded. Not hare-footed. Nails short.

~Thigh: Well built thigh with strong muscle.
大腿：结实的大腿且赋有强健的肌肉。
~Stifle: Well bent.

~Hock joint: Firm, well let down and parallel to each other.

~Hind feet: Thigh and firm. Well knuckled up and strongly padded. Not hare-footed. Nail short.

GAIT/MOVEMENT: Robust and powerful . Back level, firm with no indication of roll. Stride free, reaching in front and straight without high action. Should not move close behind nor paddle nor plait in front.
步态/步容：强健有力。背部水平，平稳没有滚动的迹象。步幅流畅，毫不费力的笔直向前伸展，向前时不应有后腿过近、摇摆或前肢打拌现象。
COAT:

Hair: Short and very harsh without any undercoat.

Colour: Red ( The variation from dark to light ) and Black.

FAULTS:

Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded as exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health, welfare of the dog and its ability to perform its traditional work.

DISQUALIFYING FAULTS:

~ Aggressive or overly shy.
有攻击性或过于胆怯。
~ Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities shall be disqualified.
任何身体或行为上，明显表现失常的犬均视为失格。

注：
~ Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into scrotum.
公犬必须具备两个明显正常的睾丸、且完全置于阴囊中。
~ Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical conformation should be used for breeding.
